Born in Cali, Colombia but raised mainly in California, Monica is at home onstage and in front of the camera. At an early age, she was entertaining family members (and even complete strangers) with her singing and dancing abilities. As a little girl of seven, Monica would line up her stuffed animals along with her pet Doberman, and act out movie scenes with them. Finally, Monica’s parents, fed up with her chasing the dog all around the house and completely confusing it, put her in Ballet and modern dance classes. By then her parents had created a monster, they were forced to chase her around every dance, baton, and singing class she had.
When she started the 4th grade, her parents put her in a school for the Visual and Performing Arts in San Diego C.A. There she was able to perform in a variety of plays, dance routines, and recitals. Shortly after the 7th grade, she moved to Ventura, C.A. Once in Ventura, Monica began taking modeling classes. She modeled until her sophomore year in high school then began to put more focus on her true passion of singing, dancing and acting. While at Buena High, Monica took choir and drama and was involved in various stage performances including “Celebration” and “The Outsiders.” She also began taking acting classes in Beverly Hills where she signed to the agency, "Media Artists Group.” From there she began auditioning regularly, booking two WB Network Promotions as well as a National Coca- Cola radio spot.
After High school, Monica continued her training. She also competed in various pageants throughout the Ventura and LA counties. She later re-signed with “The Savage Agency’ and did a variety of features in Movies and TV shows such as “Air America” and “the Cindy Margolis Show.” Monica was also the lead member in two Latin pop/r&b-girl groups before finally signing on to RK Records and Management Company, and shortly becoming one of the lead members of the group “Affinity.”
Monica hopes to follow in the famous footsteps of other Colombian Artists such as Shakira, Juanes and Carlos Vives to become a strong influence as well as a household name and face in the world music industry. Monica owes a lot of gratitude (as well as lots of money) to her family, friends, and managers who have supported and helped her throughout her career. Without them she could not have come this far.
